About
Art Hickman and Ben Black composed Hold Me as a fox trot, a dance style that was introduced in 1914 and became increasingly popular through the 1930s.
Art Hickman and his Orchestra first performed at San Francisco's St. Francis Hotel in 1913. They became so popular that they toured and recorded songs like Hold Me and were in the 1920 Zigfield Follies. Ben Black also is credited on this song, he may have played banjo in the orchestra. He wrote hits such as 'Moonlight and Roses (Bring Memories of You).'
