About
This cropped look at a crashing wave delivers a sort of serenity in its frozen beauty, as well as a sense of volatility in the droplets’ extreme dynamism. The photograph was executed in 1960, which marks a productive period for White in both his creative output and philosophical practice. White had joined the Gurdjieff group and was practicing meditation, hypnosis, and other philosophical exercises, working them into his photographic process and teachings.
