About
This 1939 image, Front Avenue, Portland, was executed during Minor White’s tenure as a photographer for the Oregon Art Project. He was tasked with photographing historic riverfront buildings in Portland before their demolition for new urban development. These photographs function today as remarkable for both their technical skill and utility as documentary images. Front Avenue, Portland, is particularly haunting with its empty streets and towering ornate façades.
