About
In one of his most controversial works, Refrigerator, a nude man and woman, ostensibly husband and wife as is common in Colville’s oeuvre, stand on opposite sides of an open refrigerator. The couple’s nudity, as well as the man’s contrapposto pose, invites comparisons to traditional compositions depicting Adam and Eve. The primal nature of the couple’s nudity is enhanced by the man’s glass of milk and their feline company. This image of candid realism is a signature approach for Colville and lays bare a brief insight into domestic reality.
