About
Using the impasto technique, Thiebaud depicts five rows of texturized pies and cakes– uniformly sliced and displayed– in Pie Counter. Thiebaud decided to use pie specifically to explore texture, lighting, and composition in this piece because of pie’s relationship with American history and its varying implications– he felt there was a “magical” quality to pie.
