About
Bakery Counter is Thiebaud’s largest still-life painting of his earlier 1960s period. The composition of these glass-confined sweet treats is one of intentional balance. Thickly applied strokes of paint depict each pastry in a perfect order, and an abstract feeling of uniformity is accomplished– a sort of idealized momento of American life further perpetuated by the pleasant color palette.
