About
This strong painting makes it one of the artist’s most famous works. Van Gogh paints the wheatfield under a dark, swirling blue sky to express ‘sadness, extreme loneliness,’ but the wheatfield also represents a ‘healthy and fortifying’ countryside. The long, horizontal painting depicts three paths through a bright yellow wheatfield under a dark blue stormy sky while a flock of black crows flies away.
