About
In the spring of 1888, the many trees in the orchards are in bloom; van Gogh would paint many of these in a series. This painting has a near-identical design he painted earlier, upon that painting, he received a notice of the death of his mentor and uncle by marriage, Anton Mauve (1838-1888). He then dedicates the picture and sends it to his widow to represent his memory tenderly and cheerfully.
