About
This painting points to van Gogh’s fondness for Japanese printmaking, shown by the budding trees’ angular and elongated branches in the spring in Arles. Unique to this painting and only one other in this series of works dedicated to orchards is the hint of human presence with the inclusion of a rake and scythe.
