About
Van Gogh painted this portrait while working and living in the southern French town, Arles. The cold weather caused him to work on indoor subjects, so he asked his close friend if he could paint portraits of his family. Much of the Roulin family modeled for him, here is Madame Augustine Roulin and her baby Marcelle she lovingly holds him up to show the viewer.
