About
Van Gogh painted this portrait of a young Provencale girl and was inspired by a famous novel called Madame Chrysantheme. The book’s protagonist of the French novel was a young, pretty Japanese girl. In this representation, he used complementary colors and a bold stylized pattern in the young woman’s outfit.
