About
This composition pictures a kingfisher bird perched, looking out for fish by the waterside. Van Gogh owned a mounted and preserved kingfisher, which he used to stand in for the actual bird, however, he took creative liberties to add variations from the mount. In this painting, he made the tail longer and gave the bird feet.
