About
The composition depicts a large, singular horse chestnut tree in blossom using short strokes or dots of pigment. The painting interestingly allows the viewer to view and understand his paint process because noticeable charcoal sketches can be seen at the base of the tree. Research also revealed van Gogh painted on top of a previous painting, which was characteristic of the artist to save money.
