About
This self-portrait was a gift to van Gogh’s friend Paul Gauguin and was heavily influenced by Japanese woodblock prints. This detail shot of the portrait highlights his facial features; the skin is textured with thick brushstrokes and seems to have a green hue, perhaps cast from the background.
