Van Gogh paints a basket of pansies that seem to be pouring over toward the viewer out of its basket. It sits upon a tambourine stool, the same as in the Cafe du Tambourin on Boulevard de Clichy in Paris, where the artist visited regularly and painted a portrait of the owner, the same stool is visible in that painting.
