About
Lahey’s use of vibrant colors can be recognized in her depiction of clothes, as they are presented in shades of bright blues, yellows, reds, and greens. The painting shows Esme Lahey (Vida Lahey’s sister) washing next to the Lahey’s family friend Flora Campbell. The two women washing implies a changed notion of feminism, as manual laborers would not have been shown during this painting’s period of the exhibition (the 1910s).
