About
This painting experiments with the cross, the intersection of two lines. It can be seen in various parts of the painting along with other geometric shapes. The straight lines of his planes and crosses are seen in contrast to the organic forms and irregular geometric shapes found in other parts of the painting. The cross pattern in the upper right corner of the painting forms a chess motif that was common in the works of this period. In addition, curves that resemble a crescent moon and curves that resemble an inverted “three” are all seen in conjunction with one another. The forms in this painting seem to float in the painting and are not connected to any concrete background. Moreover, the intersections and forms in the paintings seem to carry symbolic meaning and prompt viewers to think about what the painting represents.
