Violet-Orange depicts several floating elements of different interacting planes and organic forms. The black vertical rectangles contrast with the pastel palette in the rest of the painting and pull in the viewer’s focus into different parts of the artwork. Each black rectangle seems to be a separate entity containing its moving parts, however, it simultaneously interacts with other colorful planes. This painting shows Kandinsky’s impressive compositional skills to able to paint spatial depth and relationships between abstract forms and create a sense of three-dimensionality within his artwork.
