About
'Study for Improvisation V' shows Kandinsky’s lyrical style and abstract expression of both physical reality and nonobjective reality. Through this artwork, viewers can see Kandinsky’s expression of his “inner life”, which is represented by the various forms, shapes and colors. Various recognizable forms are represented such as people on the top right corner, and trees on the bottom left corner. The application of color is important to the understanding of Kandinsky’s expression. He believed that colors corresponded with different sounds and music. Therefore, this painting is a wholistic expression of his inner thoughts and visions and prompts viewers to engage all their senses viewing the artwork.
