Small Pleasures depict two round hills, each with a citadel on top. On the right side of the painting, there is a boat that rides under a black cloud, whilst the left hand of the painting depicts three horsemen in action. The colors with warm hues dominate most of the painting but are contrasted with areas of black and blue to draw the viewer's focus to the entire composition. The forms in the painting are in full motion and emphasize chaotic energy. Kandinsky believed that the use of abstraction in this painting reveals the hidden aspects of the empirical world and expresses subjective realities that could be understood by everyone.
