About
Like many of Kandinsky’s work in the 1920s, this painting features geometric shapes, more particularly a variety of circles. It was a continuation of his research on the interaction of the main elements of paintings, which included geometric forms, colors, and the relationship between them. He deliberately limited himself to one form, and through this, he was able to focus on other aspects of the painting such as the masses of the circle, positioning, the relationship between the circles and colors. As a result, a composition of pure abstraction is created that emphasizes geometry but also the spatial depth that is created through the interaction of the circles.
