About
This painting was one of Kandinsky’s first nonobjective paintings. It was inspired by Kandinsky’s memory of his native Russia and the painting sought to capture the spirit of the city of Moscow. Using bold colors lines and soft forms created by the combination of colors Kandinsky sought to express subject realities and apply them to the metaphysical. The cluster of forms and lines is contained within a white border, with some forms breaking through to the white areas of the painting. His use of colors and animated brushstrokes focused the viewer and engaged their senses to interact with the visual elements found within the painting.
