About
In 1904 Kirchner was exposed to African and Polynesian art styles, and embraced elements of them in his own work. This can be seen in the face of Kirchner on the right; the flat planes and sharp angles of his face emulate those of traditional African masks. The painting is composed almost entirely of low intensity blues and red-ish beige colors, with two, small windows of green in the background.
