About
Russell Lee's photo of Ray Halstead changing a tire is both simple and monumental. Lee was hired to document American families, a project by the Farm Security Administration during the 1930s Great Depression. The FSA had a program that helped rural farmers purchase land. Lee also photographed the forced relocation of Japanese Americans from the West Coast to incarceration sites all over the country.
