About
Russell Lee spent a large part of his career as a documentary photographer with the Farm Security Administration in Texas, working to publicize the lives of Americans there. This intimate portrait depicts a Mexican barber in front of his shop in San Antonio. The barber regards the camera with a determined stare, yet he also possesses a proud disposition standing in front of his own business. The haircut is advertised in the storefront as costing only 10 cents, which demonstrates Lee's ability to illustrate the times in which he lived.
