About
Carolina Blues is a mixed media abstract collage depicting three men in a domestic setting. The collage has a blue color palette which reflects the painting’s name. The influence of Cubism can be seen through this collage because the human forms are broken down to their basics and then pieced back together with more detailed elements. The men are engaged in conversation with the door open revealing the exterior. Bearden’s later works focused on the responsibility of African American artists in the struggle for civil right, thus, the discussion of the three subjects could be linked to discussions of the African American experience.
