About
This landscape, painted by Renoir in pure impressionist style, depicts two small figures enjoying the view from the seaside cliffs on which they are seated. Vibrant hues of emerald, vermillion, and gold on the land in the foreground contrast the cool colors in the sky. The sky, which occupies half of the pictorial space, is populated by swirling clouds, whose curves and swells are defined by brushstrokes of pale blue, gray and white. A line of azure just beneath them defines the hard edge of where the sea meets the sky.
