About
This female nude was painted by Renoir as a mature artist during a time when he was exploring the classical style of painting. A nude woman, sitting along a bank of water, gazes down as she dries her leg with with a white cloth. The pale tone of her skin and the cloth beneath her contrast the vibrant hues of green and blue in the background. This piece exists as both a continuation of his work using the female form as the subject and as a preface to a later masterpiece of his, “Les Grandes Baigneuses,” or “The Large Bathers”.
