About
Picasso created this work toward the end of his blue period, which is evident by the change in his use of blue and blue-green tones. The treatment of the monochrome has shifted, and here Picasso includes more naturalistic tones. The subject, a young woman, gently kisses a crow with one hand placed upon it. The woman’s skin is a ghostly white her figure hunched and frail. suggesting loss and ephemerality of her place in the scene.
