About
This painting is one of many works created during the fall and winter of 1909–10. Essentially, the work reveals Picasso’s desire to meld and transform the figure with its environment by leveling distinctions between both volumetric forms and empty spaces. Numerous changes to the composition are obvious, such as the reduction in size of the figure’s head; an example of Picasso’s indecisiveness and ever-changing artistic vision.
