About
This painting is a prime example of how Picasso frequently expressed his passionate political beliefs in his artwork. Depicted is a proudly strutting rooster dominating the center of the composition: a long-standing symbol of France. The Gallic cock crows, announcing a new day that celebrates the liberation of France from Nazi occupation in the year 1944. The painting is that of which represents freedom: a theme that Picasso was keen on incorporating into his art.
