About
(Lydia) Sylvette David was a nineteen year old French woman that worked in a pottery studio near Picasso’s studio in Vallauris in the summer of 1953. Her married name was Lydia Corbett, and she inspired over 40 works of Picasso’s works. Sylvette was set apart from most of Picasso’s muses, as she never allowed him to seduce her nor posed in the nude. Here, as in many works depicting Sylvette, she is depicted in profile, defined by her high ponytail.
