About
The Gilded Cage was a commentary on the suffrage movement, portraying a young wealthy women dressed lavishly staring out a window at revelers. She is confined to the domestic space which foregrounds the window scene, trapped in a patriarchal environment like the canary in the upper right is trapped in its golden cage. The older man to the right sits with his back to the window, ignoring an inevitable truth.
