About
Pastel proved to be the perfect medium through which the impressionists could convey a spontaneous moment. In this portrait, an unidentifiable woman poses with her hat shading her eyes as she looks down toward the floor. Although she is dressed in expensive clothes, her casual posture and arm propped on the back of the chair seem to convey the moments in between the portrait’s intended pose.
