About
The setting of The Loge, a theater box in an opera house, reflects Cassatt’s upper class life and the lives of many of her sitters. As the viewer looks at the two young women seated in the extreme foreground of the composition, the blurred figures in the distance suggest that they might turn and look at the women too. In the large chandelier at the top right of the canvas, Cassatt captures the shimmering crystals in loose strokes of blue and pink.
