About
Cassatt endeavored to capture everyday life in her art, and in this picture depicts a mother comforting her baby as they stroll outdoors with a carriage. The artist was careful to detail the faces of each of the subjects, but the rest of the composition is completed in the characteristic loose brushstrokes of the impressionists which draw the viewer’s attention to their color and texture.
