About
Although Mary Cassatt was an American, she became one of the most well-known painters to exhibit with the French impressionists. Cassatt’s sister, who posed for this portrait, moved to France to join the artist after she had already lived there for a few years. Lydia sits on a bench outdoors during autumn wearing this vibrantly patterned coat. which is treated with Cassat’s highly visible brushstrokes, as well as a black hat to keep warm.
