About
This painting demonstrates how Lee Krasner attempted to reconcile the works of Henri Matisse and Pablo Picasso. Krasner theatrically uses gesture throughout the painting as she merges Matisse’s experimentation with color and Picasso’s deconstruction of shapes. Created in 1976, this work of art embodies Krasner’s return to collage making in the later part of her career. The white of the painting is interspersed with blue and green, intertwining the concept of positive and negative space.
