About
Kees van Dongen was a Dutch painter who was associated with the Fauve Movement. The Corn Poppy represents his popularity as a portraitist of high society women, and was a member of an avant-guard wave of painters that included Henri rousseau, Robert Delaunay, and Edouard Vuillard. Van Dogen famously remarked “Painting is the most beautiful of lies”.
