About
Many of Jamie Wyeth’s paintings depict the natural world but include an element that is fantastical or even hallucinatory. In this composition, a group of cats leap through the grass, climb the trunk of a tree, and stretch to the sky. As the title suggests, they may be watching the birds up above and out of frame. One cat dominates the extreme foreground and Wyeth captures the individual hairs of its coat and its piercing, watchful gaze.
