About
View from Otenjo Mountain Mountain is one of the woodblock prints from Yoshida’s Japanese Alps, One of Twelve Subjects series. Yoshida was an avid traveler, outdoorsman, and hiker, and he captured the beauty of various scenes through these prints. He took inspiration from 19th-century European watercolorists and added Japanese traditional ink painting themes to depict the landscapes. This print depicts the intersection of a few mountains and their subsequent valleys. Through the valleys, a field is visible and more mountain ranges in the background. Yoshida used green shades to capture the vibrancy of the area. The background is translucent and covered with mist to show a spatial depth and perspective. This print evokes a feeling of serenity and peacefulness and immerses the viewer in the scene as if they are viewing the landscape from the perspective of the print.
