About
The Rapid is a woodblock print by Hiroshi Yoshida. Yoshida was an avid traveler, outdoorsman, and hiker, and he captured the beauty of various scenes through these prints. Yoshida took inspiration from 19th-century European watercolorists and added Japanese traditional ink painting themes to depict scenes. This print captures the rapids of a river and the rocky terrain around it. Yoshida uses thin outlines and different shades of blue to capture the water patterns and the rapid movement of the water. He also creates a translucent effect in the water and the rock color and formation are slightly visible under the moving water. The perspective of this print places the viewer in the scene and creates the impression that they are standing on the bank of the river watching the rapids of the water.
