About
The Acropolis at Night is a woodblock print that responds to his earlier artwork The Acropolis at Athens, which captures the Acropolis during the day. These artworks are from Yoshida’s European Series. Yoshida was an avid traveler, outdoorsman, and hiker, and he captured the beauty of various scenes through these prints. He took inspiration from 19th-century European watercolorists and added Japanese themes to depict the natural beauty of the landscape and architecture. The moonlight from the sky illuminates the scene and emphasizes the different forms of the Acropolis ruins. The dark city is seen on the bottom with various spots of light that indicate human activity.
