A Study of a Nude is a woodblock print by Hiroshi Yoshida. Yoshida took inspiration from 19th-century European watercolorists and added Japanese traditional ink painting themes to depict scenes. This scene depicts a nude woman standing in the center of the painting with her colorful robe on the floor. Yoshida uses shading and strokes to emphasize the physical form, pose, and curves of the woman. She looks gently at the ground to add a sense of femininity and gentleness to the pose. The gradient of the light to dark background brings the viewer’s focus from the top to the bottom of the print and results in the culmination of the robe on the floor by the woman’s feet.
