Scooping Gold Fish is a woodblock print from Yoshida Twelve Views of Tokyo series. Yoshida took inspiration from 19th-century European watercolorists and added Japanese traditional painting techniques to depict scenes of nature. This print depicts a street-side scene of a crowd around a small box of water with goldfishes inside. The people around the water use small spoons and bowls to attempt to scoop up the fish. The print immerses the viewer in the scene and prompts viewers to hear and see the crowd in the street. This scene shows one of the pastimes of the people in the city as well as a glimpse into how the people in Tokyo interacted and dressed in the 1920s.
