About
Hodaka Mountain is one of the woodblock prints from Yoshida’s Japanese Alps, One of Twelve Subjects series. Yoshida was an avid traveler, outdoorsman, and hiker, and he captured the beauty of various scenes through these prints. He took inspiration from 19th-century European watercolorists and added Japanese artistic themes to depict the landscapes. The print depicts a lower perspective of the mountain and a small pond in front of the mountain. The brown and orange colors of the surrounding trees suggest that fall is emerging. The water reflects the image of both the trees and the mountains creating balance between the foreground and background. This print evokes a feeling of serenity and peacefulness.
