About
Yoshida was an avid outdoorsman and hiker and during his travels he captured the beauty of the American landscape. El Capitan is one of six woodblock prints from his North American series and depicted a vertical rock formation in Yosemite National Park. He layered different colors onto the woodblock to show the different rock formations and tree perspectives. The dramatic subject is captured through a light color palette which evokes a sense of serenity despite the monumental natural elements.
