About

Herbert Andrew Paus was another illustrator that dedicated his talents during WWI to the creation of posters that supported the war effort and encouraged others to do so. The Woman's Land Army of America was a civilian organization that sought to support women taking on primary roles in working in agriculture while many were on the battlefronts abroad in WWI. Paus's poster is an advertisement for a training school at the University of Virginia that taught women skills to run their own farms to produce food both at home and abroad. The rosy image depicts two women carrying baskets of bountiful produce and a third woman riding a horse in between them, gallantly waving an American flag.
