About
This intense game of domino overlooks the ocean of Nice where Matisse lived for many years. He reveled in the southern son and the intensity of the colors around him. These two women, possibly his wife and daughter, however are enraptured in their game. Their eyes look intently at the board, even as the ocean and palms beckon them from the window to the right. Matisse echos their intensity by separating them with a thick white pillar. This pillar also divides the colors of the room, a soft peach on the left and vivid white on the right.
