About
This oil painting is a prime example of O’Keeffe’s enlarged floral paintings. In this close-up of a white rose, smooth tonal gradations of gray, white, and pale yellow define the silvery petal folds. The magnified petals partially obscure a deep green leaf which stands out against the blue background. The technique employed by O’Keeffe in this painting is characteristic of her style: a mix between representationalism and abstraction.
